Just in case anyone's looking here.... [25 Aug 2008|09:17am]

A friend just tipped me off that Amazon has the full box set as today's 'deal of the day' for ~$ 72  [their usual price ~130].  It's supposed to have extended eps, documentaries, etc.  Anyone seen it? Own it?  Because we know how they tease about those 'extras'.  And I have to get to work and decide whether to go for it in my stolen moments there....

Thanks, anyone who knows anything.  And if it's good, let's get over to Amazon.com!

I'm trying to be brief in the interest of ketchup, but this is one of my favorite episodes ever.

Why favorite?  I totally agree with mel- it had been waaay too long since we'd seen that kissing technique.  Way too long since the poor boy got any kind of action....

I’m definitely intrigued as we head into the New Kids on the Block, and it does not disappoint.  From moment one with the sputtering Toyota beater and its plethora of liberal bumper stickers to poor spilled-upon, elbowed Lindsay....

And I do have some distance to go, but I'm getting there.  This will flow into the Way We Were, New Kids, and New Era, and hopefully soon to SnOC and Chrismukkah.  I thought I'd have ‘me time’ LAST Friday, it’s been another week and there’s so much ketchup on this burger from the OC diner it’s dripping all over me.  There are a few thoughts left elsewhere as responses to others’ S2 thoughts.  Warning:  it's long.  They made a strong start to S2, IMHO.

Okay, I'm soooo far behind.  I was trying to catch up on The Goodbye Girls by shamelessy using u.cougar's quotes as a springboard, but they only reminded me of even more.  I really liked so many moments in 'Goodbye Girls'- there are problems, yes, but  they appear to have been adquately covered in other comments, so I'm down memory lane as if it were S1 again and I wasn't approaching this with such an evaluative eye.

I may be in the minority, but I love the first 8 episodes of Season 2 and I'm hoping we can have some discussion.

A few discussion points -

  - Ryan's hair
  - Theresa being ridiculous and posessive of Ryan (he doesn't have to be in Chino with her)
  - Sweet moment - Kirsten hugging the boys when they come into the kitchen at the end
  - The return of Luke!
  - Caleb's fear that his house is bugged and/or he is being watched
  - Selfish Seth
  - The screaming pool scene
  - DeeeeeeeeJaaaaayyy (that's the Marissa pronounciation)
  - The "miscarriage" and its impacts

I really enjoyed this episode.  In so many ways, it was the OC poking fun at itself.  I totally saw Seth (Adam Brody) as Grady Bridges on the Valley.  They both improv or ad-lib many of their scenes.  They both were also dating their co-stars.  And the best was seeing Seth see himself as Grady Bridges and who would Summer rather date, the real Seth or TV Seth.

Ryan can never have an angst free month, week, or even day without some lady drama.  It makes sense that Ryan would rather have the whole Luke-Julie affair kept under Marissa's radar.  Too bad it backfires on him, with Luke's bad timing.  So, we get to see Marissa cry again and be upset with Ryan.  Although they did have a nice scene as she helped them get back into the club.  I loved how she freaked out when he approached the bouncer and she commented on how much shorter he seems in real-life, again making fun of themselves.

Another scene where they seemed to make fun of themselves is when Paris Hilton runs into Seth and Summer.  And Paris says Orange County and then Eww, just like Summer with Ryan during the first beach party.  "Chino...eww."

My favorite quotes did come out of this episode with Ryan being the brawn, Seth being the brains, Marissa the beauty and Summer agreeing to be the boobs, since that was a nicer alternative to the name Seth suggested.

The Goodbye Girl [28 Jul 2007|03:37pm]

First off---how obvious is it that Ryan cares deeply for and worries about Theresa? It's all in the eyes. But then, it always is with Ben.

The banter between Ryan and Sandy feels so right. (Like you were my own son) Good advice, Sandman.

Nice quibbling over Cal, Kiki.

“I’m here to be with you.”
“Are we doing this?”
“It’s not like we haven’t before.”

Yowsa! Finally - Ryan gets laid. Except….we are then in for the longest dry spell in teenage history.

*sigh* No strings. He doesn’t even say goodbye.

“Veritas in vino…you know?”
“Hardly ever.”

Despite what others may think of Theresa, at the end of this episode she has seen what Ryan has here in Newport and realizes that he is better off here and she doesn’t belong, so she regretfully bows out….for 10 minutes. Until she brings all her drama to his doorstep.

Goodbye Girls

~ Anna – until S3
~ Theresa – at least for now
~ Kaitlin – b/c this is the last we see of her until halfway through S3 (oh wait – we see her in a nice dress at the wedding in the S1 finale, don’t we?)
~ Kiki - if she goes to jail
~ Rosa – we never saw her again after the last ep

~ Seth – Oh wait…he only acts like a girl…and he leaves on a boat…and only gets as far as Portland.

I think I’m done now. Gonna go watch Junebug…..haven’t seen it in awhile. Oh yeah...and 'Cheers' to the BritFlisters on their Moot!

Goodbye Anna :( [26 Jul 2007|03:14pm]

[ mood | creative ]

I enjoyed The Goodbye Girl episode.  I wish that Anna could have stayed.  She would have really added to the storylines.

I wasn't too excited for Theresa to stay.  And I'm not sure Ryan was that excited either.  Yes, he got some action, but Theresa staying in Newport just caused too much stress in his life.  Suddenly, he went from his semi-carefree life living at the Cohens, to having to worry about his friend/love and where she was going to live and where she was going to work.  They were just too many logistics he felt he needed to work out.  I am not sure Ryan would have even gotten that stressed except for Seth and Sandy asking him a million questions linked to his one little kiss.  He needed a plan according to them.  I am glad that Theresa realized that she was creating a mess in Ryan's new life by coming to Newport.  I think it finally hit her when Eddie showed up at the Cohens.  Goodbye for a while Theresa.

It was such a sad scene between Seth and Anna at the airport.  Seth didn't know what he would do without her.  I loved the song, "If you leave" to go with Seth and Anna's goodbye.  I wish she didn't have to leave, but at least the writer gave her some good reasoning for leaving.  She was lonely in Newport as Seth once was.  Seth dreamed of leaving Newport since he was 6, but his life changed with the addition of Ryan and his long-time love Summer.  I loved when Ryan was driving Seth to the airport.  It mirrored Seth driving Summer and the rest of the gang to TJ.  Seth complained about the A.C. and Ryan driving too slow, since 80 is the new 65 and what is with the music Ryan is listening to on the radio.  Summer complained about all the same things back in TJ, the A.C. Cohen's driving, and Death Cab on the radio.  Too hilarious!
